Abstract
Purpose: The study aimed to investigate color perception and normal range for normal color vision under three standard illuminants D65, TL84, and A with the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test.

Methods: Color vision was tested for a total of 42 participants with normal color vision (mean age 25.24¡¾3.15 years) using a Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test. The color perception ability was analyzed with the total error scores (TES) and error diagrams from the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test.

Results: The mean of the TES was the highest under illuminant A, and was the lowest under illuminant D65. Comprehensive comparisons of Verriest¡¯s and our results suggested that the changes in the illuminant might decrease the color perception ability to the level of older age group. The results of the error diagrams showed that participants had a difficulty in distinguishing adjacent hues because the colors in the regions of caps green-series colored caps are relatively more closely spaced. The normal ranges of error scores were calculated from the range included statistically 90% of participants.

Conclusions: As the color perception is changeds by types of illuminant, it is important to use a right illuminant when selecting a color of tinted spectacles lenses or cosmetic color contact lenses. And drivers have to consider the reduction to the color perception ability when night driving. Great care is needed when analyzing a error diagram because the difficulty of distinguishing between adjacent hues are not equal to a around the hue circle in the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test.
